The independent Valencian magazine Sibarita News has been chosen amongst the entre 13 candidates nominated to the national awards that the Spanish Association of Pottery Cities (AeCC) gives to reward the work in favour of pottery of professionals and public and private entities.
The fifth edition of this award rewards the effort of this free publication to bring closer to society, and especially to the tourists that visit us, the products, techniques and traditions of the craft trades, focusing specifically in the promotion of the craftsmanship of the Valencian Community, both in a local level and in the main international events, such as Maison & Objet Paris, Ambiente Frankfurt or Milan Design Week, amongst others.
The awards will be made public in the next edition of the International Fair of Tourism of Madrid (Fitur), which will gather together representatives of the 35 Spanish cities linked to the AeCC, entity born to promote the survival of traditional pottery establishing an entity comparable to other associations of cities that already exist in Italy (AiCC) and in France (AfCC).
The candidature of the magazine Sibarita News, proposed by the Municipal Museum of Pottery of Paterna (Valencia), has the backing of multiple entities that are relevant for the sector such as the National Museum of Pottery González Martí, the Museum of the Càntir d’Argentona or the Councils of Manises and L’Alcora, amongst others.
This magazine, free and bilingual –Spanish/English-, was born in November, 2013 to promote the craftsmanship and pottery of Alicante, Castellon and Valencia, with the purpose of opening up new lines of business for craftsmen, as well as promoting amongst the foreign visitors native products such as the socarrat, the tile or the traditional lusterware of Manises, and also promoting the innovations and the approaches of traditional techniques to new technologies.
Investigation and tradition. Therefore, thanks to the bet of the design studio Sanserif Creatius, and to the support of various entities of the sector –Valencian Association of Potters-AVEC, Craftsmanship Centre, Guild of Tailors and Dressmakers, etc.-, this publication has turned into a mirror of the activity of the sector and into a channel to present the work of its professionals in international events.
Sibarita News has been proposed for the award in the category destined for entities that work in favour of pottery, together with the National Association of Pottery Professionals (Anpec), the Catalan Association of Pottery, and the Consortium School of Arts and Craftsmanship of Andalucía “Della Robbia”.
As well, the nominees in the category of traditional pottery are the potter of Manises (Valencia), Arturo Mora, for his work in the extinct technique of silverware; and the craftsman of Portol (Marratxí), Tomeu Amengual. In the category of contemporary creative pottery the nominees are Amparo Almela and Jordi Serra. In the category of Innovation and Development, the company Vicar S.A. and the craftsman Francisco Javier Tudela Cayuela are the finalists.
Finally, in the category of Historic investigation and/or ethnology, the nominees are the director of the National Museum of Pottery González Martí, Jaume Coll; and the news team Adobe. In this edition a honour prize will also be given to the potter Bartolomé Bellón, as proposed by the Council of Totana, as a recognition for his professional career.
The AeCC was made up in Argentona (Barcelona) in November 10, 2007, with the signature of politic representatives (mayors and councillors) of 23 cities that have been branded as pottery cities of Spain. Nowadays, the entity represents 35 Spanish cities with pottery tradition and it has bonds with the main international entities of the sector.
