Three state museums —Museo Arqueológico Nacional, Museo del Romanticismo and Museo del Traje— openned their gates at the end of 2015 to Wikimedia Spain and started a collaboration that allowed the rigorous updating about their contents and collections in Wikipedia, apart from improving the interaction between the user community in the red.
This pioneer arrangement allowed the donation of multimedia archives (documents, images or recordings) under licence free.
The Wikimedia Foundation finances this initiative, which develops other activities as well to the public. This activities are intended to explain the running of their tools of edition and to generate new contents related with the participant institutions and topics connected with their collections: archaeology, society, art and culture in Spain during the Nineteenth Century, couture history or ethnography.
This model of collaboration started inside the project GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums), and pretends to involve the professionals from those ambits into the Wikimedia projects. The initiative has been running successfully in the British Museum, Palace of Versailles or the Picasso Museum in Barcelona, and for the first time starts in Spain involving three museums simultaneously.
